# Companies on the Watchlist and company alerts

The Watchlist keeps **people and companies apart**. A company is on it
once, by its domain, however many of your contacts or lists name it. You
can put a whole sub-market there — a few thousand companies — and let
ListPlus tell you when one of them gives you a reason to get in touch.

## Getting companies onto the Watchlist

Open **Watchlist** and click **Companies** in the left column. The table
shows each company with its domain, LinkedIn page, where it came from
(**Found via**) and when it was added; the search field in the page header
searches by name or domain. There are four ways in:

- **From a search** — a company you save from Person Search or Segment
  Search is put there automatically.
- **From a contact** — in a contact's **⋯** menu choose **Watch company**.
- **From a list** — in the Companies view click **Add from a list** in the
page header and pick the list. Every company of its rows is added once.
A row's company is recognized by its domain: the company domain, the
website, or a business email address. Rows without one are left out, and
  the message says how many.
- **From a company's detail** — open any company, anywhere in ListPlus, and
click **Set alert** in its Alerts box: the company is put on the
  Watchlist first.

A workspace can hold up to 5,000 companies. Putting companies on the
Watchlist costs no credits. Remove one with **Remove from watchlist** in
its row's **⋯** menu, or tick several and click the Remove button, which
shows how many.

With companies ticked, **Add** puts them into a list or sends them to a
pipeline as company records (see "[Pipelines to Slack, CRMs, sequencers, Sheets and webhooks](https://listplus.ai/en/help/pipelines/pipelines-crm-slack-and-webhook)").

## Alerts on companies

An alert watches a company for reasons to get in touch: its **job
postings** on LinkedIn, and its **funding rounds**. Click the bell in a company's row
and choose **Set alert**, or tick several companies and click **Set alert**
above the table. The **Set alerts** dialog is the one contacts have:

- **What to watch** — **New job postings** and **Funding rounds**; tick
  one or both.
- **Check frequency** — **Weekly** or **Daily**.
- **Send news to** — optional: a pipeline the company goes into when there
is news, for example a Slack channel or your CRM.
- **Send its contacts to** — optional: a pipeline that gets the contacts of
this company that are on your Watchlist when there is news — the occasion
to get in touch, for example a sequence or a task. People that came from
a whole list are saved as contacts first.

The foot of the dialog shows what the companies cost per month. Alerts on
companies cost credits per company and month, charged like the alerts on
contacts: the first month when you set the alert, then monthly from the
workspace owner's balance. Without credits the alert waits, and stopping
gives no refund for the running month. The prices are in "Price list: what
every action costs".

What the checks report:

- The first check only records where the company stands. What is posted
already is not reported as news.
- After that each check reports once what is new — for example "3 new job
postings" with the first job titles.
- **Hiring a lot** is reported when a company posted 10 or more new jobs
within 30 days, at most once in 30 days.

- **Funding rounds** reports a new round with its name, amount and date,
for example "Series A · $22.3M". Rounds from before you set the alert
  are not reported.

For job postings a company needs its **LinkedIn page**. ListPlus looks the page up
by the company's domain when you set the alert. If none is found, the job
postings of that company are not checked and not charged; funding rounds
work without the page. An Enrich pipeline can
find the page (see "[The Enrich pipeline target — fill a record's own missing fields](https://listplus.ai/en/help/pipelines/enrich-pipeline)"); set the alert again afterwards.

## Where the news shows up

- **News** in the left column lists people and companies with news; the
line **Job postings** below it shows only the companies.
- **With alerts** below Companies lists every watched company with its
**Checks**, a small number for the frequency (7 = weekly, 1 = daily), the
**Latest news** and the **Next check**.
- The bell in a company's row is grey when nothing is watched, violet when
the alert runs, amber when it waits, with a dot while there is news you
  haven't seen.

## A company's detail

Click a company — in Companies or in News — to open it in the detail view
every company has: profile, enriching, **Add**. For a company on the
Watchlist the button at the top reads **On the watchlist**; its menu
removes the company again.

The **Alerts** box sits at the top:

- A pill says where the alert stands: **On**, **Waiting** (with the reason,
for example "Paused – no credits" or "LinkedIn missing") or **Not set**.
- With an alert set you see what is watched, the frequency, the next check
and the pipeline the news goes to. **Change** opens the dialog; **Stop
alerts** is in the **⋯** menu next to it.
- **New job postings** shows the new postings of the last 30 days as a
small chart, one bar per day, and below it the news found so far. A
message about new postings links to the first of them (**Open posting**).

Below the box, **People on the watchlist** names the contacts of this
company that are on your Watchlist. Click it to open the contact; with
several it unfolds into a list.

## When alerts are switched off

If the owner has switched off the monitoring of people in the workspace
policy, the dialog shows "People monitoring is off in this workspace" and
what would be available, and nothing can be set. The owner switches it on
under Workspace settings → Workspace policy.

## FAQ

### How do I put companies on my watchlist?

Open Companies in the left column of the Watchlist page and click Add from a list to add every company of a list at once, or choose Watch company in a contact's ⋯ menu. Each company is there once, by its domain, and adding costs no credits.

### Why were some rows of my list not added as companies?

A company is recognized by its domain: the company domain, the website, or a business email address. Rows without any of these are left out, and the message after adding says how many. Addresses at Gmail and similar providers, and LinkedIn or other platform links, don't count as a company's domain.

### Can I get an alert when a company is hiring?

Yes. On the Watchlist open Companies, click the bell in a company's row and choose Set alert; ListPlus then checks the company's job postings on LinkedIn weekly or daily and reports new ones under News. It also reports "Hiring a lot" when a company posted 10 or more new jobs within 30 days.

### Why does a company show "LinkedIn missing" instead of an alert?

Job postings are found through the company's LinkedIn page, so a company without one cannot be checked and is not charged. Send the company to an Enrich pipeline to find its page, or add it again with its LinkedIn page, then set the alert once more.

### Why did my new company alert not report the jobs that are already posted?

The first check only records where the company stands, so existing postings are the starting point and not news. From the second check on you get one message per check with what is new. Until the first check has run, the company's Alerts box says "Starting point pending".

### How do I send a company to Slack or my CRM when it posts new jobs?

In the Set alerts dialog pick a pipeline under Send news to. When the alert finds something, the company goes into that pipeline as a company record with the news, for example as a Slack card with the number of new postings and the first job titles.

### Can a hiring signal start outreach to the people I know at that company?

Yes. In the Set alerts dialog pick a pipeline under Send its contacts to: when the company has news, its contacts on your Watchlist go into that pipeline, for example a sequence or a task. People that came from a whole list are saved as contacts first.

### Can I get an alert when a company raises a funding round?

Yes. In the Set alerts dialog for a company tick Funding rounds. When the company raises a new round, it appears under News with the round, the amount and the date; rounds from before the alert was set are not reported.

### How many companies can I watch?

A workspace can hold up to 5,000 companies on the Watchlist. Each company with an alert is charged per company and month; the plan's limit on alerts counts contacts, not companies.

### Where do I see what a company's alert has found so far?

Open the company from Companies or News. The Alerts box at the top shows the new job postings of the last 30 days as a small chart and lists the news found so far; a message about new postings links to the first of them.
