Usage evaluation: what ListPlus counts and how to switch it off

Updated Markdown

ListPlus counts which functions are used and how often, so we can see what helps and what needs work. The count is linked to your account by a pseudonym, works without cookies, and never includes the contents of your lists. You can switch it off for your account at any time in Settings → Profile & sign-in (Einstellungen → Profil & Anmeldung) with the switch Usage evaluation (Nutzungsauswertung).

What is counted#

Events of the kind "a list was created", "an enrichment was started", "a column of kind Score was added", "an export in format CSV was done", "a page of the kind list was viewed". Each event carries only kinds, choices and counts — for example the import source, the number of rows, the export format, which panel was opened — plus your plan and the page it happened on as a pattern (see below).

On the server, every AI call and every call to a data provider is counted as well: which feature asked for it, which model or provider answered, whether it succeeded, how long it took, how many tokens or items it used, and the credits charged for it. These counts are also what keeps our own cost and quality figures right.

Your browser also sends what analytics libraries usually add: browser and version, operating system, device type, screen and window size, time zone and browser language. No location is derived from your connection.

What is not counted#

  • The contents of your lists: no cell values, no names, no e-mail addresses, no company names, no column names, no tags.
  • What you type: no search texts, no AI instructions, no chat messages.
  • Addresses with identifiers: a page is recorded as its pattern, for example "list/[id]/export" — never with the id of the list, a token or a link. The page you came from and any campaign parameters are removed before an event leaves the browser.
  • Clicks and keystrokes in general: nothing is recorded automatically. Only the named events above are sent, and only the moment you start the action.
  • No session recordings, no heatmaps, no surveys.

No cookies, nothing kept in the browser#

The usage evaluation sets no cookie and keeps no identifier in your browser's storage — which is why ListPlus shows no cookie banner. The library runs in page memory only; what it needs is gone when you close the tab. Two small notes stay in the browser so the same browser isn't counted twice: which views were already counted as a "first visit" (a list of view names), and, right after you create an account, which account was counted as a sign-up (your account id). Neither is a cookie, neither is sent to the analytics service, and both go when you clear the browser's site data.

How you are told apart#

When you're signed in, events carry a pseudonym: a hash computed from your account id. It is not your name, not your e-mail address and not your account id, and the analytics service never receives any of those. Your workspace is named the same way, by a hash. Without an account you're not told apart at all: an anonymous visitor gets a throw-away id for the page load, and no profile is made of it.

Where the data goes#

Events are sent through listplus.ai to PostHog, a product-analytics service, on its EU cloud (the EU endpoint eu.i.posthog.com). PostHog processes the data on our behalf. Our own daily totals — how many AI calls, provider calls and credits per feature and day — are kept by ListPlus itself, without any person attached.

Switching it off#

Open Settings → Profile & sign-in and turn off Usage evaluation. From then on:

  • your browser sends nothing at all — no events, no page views;
  • what the server counts for your actions (AI and provider calls, credits) is recorded without any person: it can't be linked to you;
  • the daily totals without a person keep running, as they do for everyone.

The choice is stored on your account, not in the browser, so it applies on every device you sign in on. Turn the switch back on to be counted again. The last event your browser sends is the switch-off itself.

Not covered by the switch#

The listplus.ai website and the app also use Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless page-view count without any identity, as described in the privacy policy at listplus.ai/privacy. The switch covers the usage evaluation above; it does not change the cookieless page count.

FAQ#

What does ListPlus count about my usage?#

Which functions are used and how often: events like "list created", "enrichment started" or "export done", each with kinds and counts only (source, number of rows, format), plus your plan and the page as a pattern without ids. On the server, AI and data-provider calls are counted with the feature, the model or provider, success, duration and the credits charged. It never includes the contents of your lists.

Does the usage evaluation see my list data, names or e-mail addresses?#

No. Cell values, names, e-mail addresses, company names, column names, tags, search texts and AI instructions are never sent. Nothing is recorded automatically from clicks or typing; only named events are sent.

Does ListPlus set tracking cookies? Why is there no cookie banner?#

The usage evaluation sets no cookie, and the analytics library runs in page memory only, which is why there's no cookie banner. Your browser only keeps two notes so nothing is counted twice: which views were already counted as a "first visit", and, after you create an account, which account was counted as a sign-up — neither is sent to the analytics service.

How does ListPlus know it's me in the usage evaluation?#

Signed in, your events carry a pseudonym: a hash computed from your account id. The analytics service never receives your name, e-mail address or account id. Without an account you're not told apart at all.

How do I switch the usage evaluation off?#

Open Settings → Profile & sign-in (Profil & Anmeldung) and turn off the switch "Usage evaluation" (Nutzungsauswertung). Your browser then sends nothing, and what the server counts for your actions is recorded without any person. Turn it back on the same way.

Does switching it off apply on all my devices?#

Yes. The choice is stored on your account, not in the browser, so it applies wherever you sign in. Each person in a workspace decides for themselves.

What still gets counted after I switch it off?#

Only totals without any person: how many AI calls, provider calls and credits per feature and day across all users. Nothing from your browser is sent, and nothing can be linked to you.

Where does the usage data go? Is it stored in the EU?#

Events go through listplus.ai to PostHog, a product-analytics service, on its EU cloud (eu.i.posthog.com), which processes them on our behalf. ListPlus's own daily totals hold no person at all. The privacy policy at listplus.ai/privacy has the details.

Are visitors without an account tracked?#

Anonymous visitors are counted without any identity: a throw-away id for the page load, no cookie, no profile. Pages are recorded as patterns without ids.

Does the switch also stop the website's page-view count?#

No. The listplus.ai website and the app also use Vercel Web Analytics, a cookieless page-view count that carries no identity, as described in the privacy policy at listplus.ai/privacy. The switch covers the usage evaluation of your account.

Are the page addresses with my list ids sent?#

No. A page is recorded as its pattern, for example "list/[id]/export"; the id of the list, tokens and links are replaced before the event leaves the browser, and the page you came from is removed too.

Is anything recorded automatically, like clicks or screen recordings?#

No. Automatic click capture, session recordings, heatmaps, surveys and error screenshots are all switched off. Only the named events are sent, once per action you start.
