Read whole pages with the Chrome extension

Updated Markdown

On a web page that lists people or companies, the ListPlus Chrome extension can read the whole page for you. Instead of saving one entry at a time, you press Find people & companies and the cards on the page become records: name, role, company, place, and contact data wherever the page shows it. The reading is done by the AI built into Chrome, on your own computer: nothing of the page is uploaded to ListPlus or to any AI service.

Which pages work#

The extension looks for repeated cards, rows or list items that each describe one person or one company: conference speaker pages, exhibitor and startup directories, investor and VC lists, team pages, member and partner lists. A page without such cards, for example an article, a product page or a page with a single contact, has nothing to find: the extension says Nothing found. Cards that are product tiles or teasers without a person or a company are skipped on purpose. The feature is made for websites outside LinkedIn; on LinkedIn the extension saves the profiles and company pages you open (see "Save people and companies with the Chrome extension").

What your computer needs#

Reading whole pages uses Chrome's built-in model (Gemini Nano). It runs only where the device meets Chrome's requirements:

  • Chrome 138 or newer
  • about 22 GB of free disk space
  • 16 GB of RAM or a graphics card with more than 4 GB of memory

Where a device does not qualify, the extension says so ("Local AI is not available on this device"), the reading stays off and nothing is sent to a cloud model instead. Everything else in the extension works in every Chrome.

Switching it on#

  1. Open the settings with the arrow button at the right of the footer (Detections & settings) and open the Websites group.
  2. Set Lists of people and companies to On click (and, for imprint pages, People from the imprint). These detections have no Automatic mode: a page is read only when you press the button. Chrome asks once to let the extension see the address of the page you are on.
  3. Press Activate. Chrome downloads the model once and the extension shows the progress ("Local AI is downloading"). When it says Local AI ready (Gemini Nano), you are set.

Reading a page#

Open the page, open the extension and press Find people & companies. The first time on a site, Chrome asks for access to that site; without it nothing can be read, and the extension tells you so.

  • Results appear while the page is being read: a counter ("12 found") and a progress bar. A long page is read in parts ("Reading part 2 of 5"), and if a very long page is read only to a point, the extension says so.
  • When reading is done, the found cards are outlined on the page. Click an entry's name (Show on the page) and the page scrolls to its card.
  • Pages whose cards all look the same are read quickly; pages with many differently built cards take longer, because more of them need the AI.

Then save single entries, or press Save as folder to keep all hits as one folder in your saved list instead of flooding it. An entry whose card links to a LinkedIn profile is saved under that profile.

Imprint pages#

On an imprint page (Impressum, mentions légales, aviso legal) press Read the imprint. The extension reads the company with its address, phone and e-mail, plus the named representatives, and marks the names on the page. The representatives are saved as people, the company as a company.

How accurate is it#

Contact data, such as e-mail addresses, phone numbers and postcodes, is read by fixed rules from the card's text, not guessed by the AI. Every name the extension returns has to stand in the text of the page; a name that does not appear there is dropped. The result still depends on how the page is built: a card that hides its role, a name that is only in an image, or entries the page loads only when you scroll can lead to missing or incomplete records. Check the results before you hand them over.

Next step: hand over to ListPlus#

Select the entries and hand them over. People go to a contact list, companies to a company list. Enriching at the hand-over is optional and shows its price first; for companies found on a website, ListPlus first looks up the company's website. See "Hand over from the Chrome extension to ListPlus".

FAQ#

The "Find people & companies" button is missing or off. What now?#

The button appears only when Lists of people and companies is set to On click in the Websites group of Detections & settings and the model was downloaded with Activate. It stays off on devices that don't meet Chrome's requirements for its built-in AI (Chrome 138 or newer, about 22 GB free disk space, 16 GB RAM or a graphics card with more than 4 GB). Everything else in the extension keeps working.

Which computers can use local AI reading?#

You need Chrome 138 or newer, about 22 GB of free disk space and either 16 GB of RAM or a graphics card with more than 4 GB. The model downloads once, after you press Activate. On other devices the feature stays off; there is no cloud fallback.

Does the extension send the page to ListPlus or an AI service?#

No. The page is read by the AI built into Chrome on your own computer, and nothing of the page is uploaded. Only a hand-over you start yourself sends the selected entries to ListPlus.

Why are some cards on the page missing from the results?#

The extension finds cards by their repeated structure and keeps only names that stand in the page text, so cards without a clear person or company, or names that exist only in an image, can be left out. Entries a page loads only when you scroll are not there yet: scroll until all are shown, then press Find people & companies again. Check the results before handing them over.

Which pages work, and which don't?#

Pages with cards or rows for people or companies work: speaker pages, exhibitor and startup directories, investor lists, team pages, member and partner lists. Articles, product pages and pages with a single contact have nothing to find, and the extension says "Nothing found."

No, reading whole pages is made for websites outside LinkedIn, such as speaker or exhibitor pages. On LinkedIn the extension saves the profiles and company pages you open, one at a time or with auto mode. Please mind LinkedIn's User Agreement.

Is this scraping, and is it allowed?#

The extension reads only the page you have open in your own browser, on your own computer; it does not crawl sites or open further pages by itself. You are responsible for using the data you collect lawfully, for example under data-protection rules and the terms of the site you read.

What permissions does the extension ask for when reading a page?#

Chrome asks to let the extension see the address of the page you're on (once, when you switch the detection on) and for access to each site you want to read. Without access to a site nothing is read.

How do I save everything I found at once?#

Press Save as folder. All hits not yet saved are stored as one folder in your saved list, which you can rename, hand over together (Hand all over) or delete with its entries. Entries stay in your browser until you hand them over.

What does it read on an imprint page?#

Press Read the imprint on an Impressum or imprint page. You get the company with its address, phone and e-mail as one record, plus the named representatives as people, and their names are marked on the page.

Are the contact details found by the AI?#

No. E-mail addresses, phone numbers and postcodes are read by fixed rules from the text of the card; the AI is used to tell people and companies apart and to read names, roles and places. Contact data appears only where the page shows it.
