Save people and companies with the Chrome extension

Updated Markdown

The ListPlus Chrome extension keeps a saved list of the people and companies you come across on LinkedIn, with a note if you like. The list lives only in your browser (the header says Local). Nothing reaches ListPlus until you hand entries over yourself (see "Hand over from the Chrome extension to ListPlus").

Save from a page#

Open a LinkedIn person or company page. The card On this page shows what was recognised (Person or Company) with its name.

  1. Optionally type a text into Add a note ….
  2. Click Save. The button changes to Saved.
  3. Click Saved again to remove the entry.

Each page address has exactly one entry: visiting a profile again never creates a second one.

What is stored from a LinkedIn page#

By default the extension stores only the page's address and the name from the tab's title. It does not read the page itself, on purpose: LinkedIn's User Agreement forbids add-ons that copy data from its pages.

If you want more, switch on Read details from LinkedIn pages in the settings (see below). The extension then also stores what the page shows: headline, company, location and the photo or company logo. The switch is off until you turn it on, and the note next to it reminds you to mind LinkedIn's User Agreement. Whether to use it is your decision.

Detections: what do you want to save?#

Open the settings with the arrow button at the right of the footer (Detections & settings), by clicking Auto mode in the footer, or with Adjust detections on a page where nothing was recognised. The view is called What do you want to save?. Its groups (LinkedIn, Websites) are folded; click a group to open it. Each detection has one of three modes:

  • Off: the extension ignores these pages.
  • On click: the page's card offers Save, and you decide.
  • Automatic: the page is saved by itself, but only while auto mode is on.

The defaults are LinkedIn profiles on Automatic and LinkedIn companies on On click. The Read details from LinkedIn pages switch sits in the LinkedIn group and is shown while one of the two LinkedIn detections is not Off.

Auto mode#

Auto mode is the switch in the footer, and it is off when you install the extension. While it is on, the extension saves every page that matches a detection set to Automatic as you browse. Only the LinkedIn detections can be Automatic; other websites are never saved by auto mode.

When something is saved automatically, the extension's icon shows a badge with the number of new entries, and an open extension plays a short sound. Opening the extension resets the badge. If you remove an automatically saved page, auto mode does not save it again for 30 minutes.

Hover over an entry's time to see whether you saved it yourself (Saved by you) or the extension did (Saved automatically).

On a page that is not recognised, the card says Nothing recognised here. Click Save page manually to keep it as a link entry. The first time, Chrome asks for a permission so the extension can see the address of the page you are on. Links stay in your saved list: they cannot go into a ListPlus list, but they are included in an export.

Your saved list#

The main view shows your latest entries (Saved today or Saved lately). Click See all to open All entries: a calendar (Saved per day) to pick a day, a search for names, companies or notes, and all entries by day. Click an entry to open its page; hovering over a LinkedIn person or company shows Open profile in ListPlus.

Select and delete#

Click Select above the list and tick the entries you want. The footer then shows the number selected, Move to folder, Delete (after a confirmation) and the hand-over button. Done above the list leaves select mode.

Folders#

Folders keep a group of entries together instead of a long flat list.

  • Create an empty folder with the folder button in the list's header (New folder), then drag entries onto it.
  • Or tick entries and use Move to folder in the footer: pick a folder or New folder. Inside an open folder the same menu offers Take out of the folder.
  • Open a folder to see In this folder. Click its name to rename it; Hand all over hands its entries over, Delete folder deletes it.

There is one level of folders, and auto mode never puts entries into a folder. Deleting a folder deletes the entries inside it too, after a confirmation.

Export as CSV or Excel#

All entries and every folder have an export button (the download icon). It exports what is currently shown (for example one day or a search result), or only your selection if you ticked entries. Choose Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (Excel, Sheets, CRM).

The columns are: Type, Name, LinkedIn, URL, Position, Company, Location, Email, Phone, Website, Street, Postcode, City, Country, Note, Folder, Saved at, Saved and Handed over to. Columns without data stay empty.

Limits#

The saved list holds up to 5,000 entries; when it is full, the oldest fall off. Clearing the browser's data for the extension or removing the extension deletes the saved list, so export or hand over what you want to keep.

FAQ#

Why is only the name and address saved from a LinkedIn profile?#

By default the extension stores only the page address and the name from the tab's title, because LinkedIn's User Agreement forbids add-ons that copy data from its pages. To also store headline, company, location and photo, switch on Read details from LinkedIn pages in Detections & settings, in the LinkedIn group.

How do I get headline, company and photo into my saved entries?#

Open Detections & settings (the arrow button in the footer), open the LinkedIn group and switch on Read details from LinkedIn pages. It applies to LinkedIn profiles and companies you save afterwards. It is off by default; please mind LinkedIn's User Agreement.

Does auto mode save every website I visit?#

No. Auto mode only saves LinkedIn pages whose detection is set to Automatic, and only while Auto mode in the footer is on. It is off by default, and other websites are never saved by it.

What do the detection modes Off, On click and Automatic mean?#

Off ignores the pages, On click offers Save on the page's card, and Automatic saves them while auto mode is on. By default LinkedIn profiles are Automatic and LinkedIn companies are On click.

Why does the extension icon show a number?#

The badge counts the entries saved automatically since you last opened the extension. Opening it resets the badge; while it is open, a short sound marks each new entry.

I removed a saved page and it came back. Why?#

It should not come back right away: a page you remove is not saved again by auto mode for 30 minutes. After that, visiting it again with auto mode on saves it again. To keep a page out for good, set its detection to On click or Off.

Is there a limit to how many entries I can save?#

Yes, the saved list holds up to 5,000 entries, and the oldest fall off when it is full. Export what you want to keep with Export, or hand it over to ListPlus.

How do I delete saved entries?#

Click Select above your saved list, tick the entries, and click Delete in the footer. To remove a single entry while you are on its page, click Saved on the page's card. Deleting a folder deletes the entries inside it.

How do I export my saved list to Excel or CSV?#

Click the Export button in All entries (or in a folder) and choose Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (Excel, Sheets, CRM). It exports what is shown, or only your selection.

To save any page as a link with Save page manually, the extension has to see the address of the page you are on, and Chrome asks for that permission the first time. LinkedIn people and companies do not need it.

What happens to the entries in a folder when I delete the folder?#

They are deleted with it, after a confirmation. To keep entries, open the folder, select them and choose Take out of the folder under Move to folder first.
