Automatically adding recognized Inbox contacts to a list
"The Inbox" covers pasting and receiving things manually; this is about the optional setting that skips the manual review step for the contacts it's confident about, sending them straight to a list.
Turning it on#
On the Inbox start page, below "Or receive automatically", tick "Add recognized contacts to a list automatically." Then:
- Choose a list — pick any list that belongs to the current workspace.
- Add a contact when it … — choose the check: "is confirmed on the web (safe)" (only contacts a web match backs up) or "is merely plausible (AI check)" (also lets through contacts the AI judges plausible without a web match, a wider net with a little more risk).
The setting is shared by the whole workspace — anyone can turn it on, pick the list, or turn it off — and it saves the moment you change it, no extra save button.
What happens next#
From the moment it's on, every new entry is recognized right away, the same recognition an entry would otherwise wait for you to run by hand, and billed the same way: 0.5 credits as a base per entry, plus the usual AI cost on top for longer free text. This applies to paste, forwarded e-mail and anything sent in through a tool — anywhere a new entry can arrive.
Out of everything that entry's recognition finds, only candidates that are all of the following go straight to the chosen list, with nothing left for you to click:
- a person — a company-only candidate (a venue, an organiser, a brand) always waits for you;
- a real contact, not someone only mentioned in the text;
- passing the check you chose — confirmed on the web, or (if you allowed it) also merely plausible;
- unambiguous — if several LinkedIn profiles could match and none is chosen yet, the row waits for you instead of guessing;
- reachable — it has a name and an e-mail address or a LinkedIn URL.
Everything else — companies, people only mentioned in the text, anything that didn't pass the check, or a row still waiting on "Is this the right person?" — stays in the Inbox exactly as if the setting were off, ready for you to review and decide on by hand.
Duplicates stay out. A candidate that matches a row already in the list by e-mail, LinkedIn URL, or name and company fills that row's empty cells instead of being added a second time — the same merge behaviour as adding people to a list by hand.
Existing entries are not processed. Turning the setting on only affects entries that arrive afterward; whatever was already sitting in your Inbox stays there for manual review, so switching it on never bills a backlog.
A table is never auto-recognized. An entry that ListPlus detects as a table (more than 10 rows, at least 3 columns) always waits for you — it's offered as Import as list as usual, whether the setting is on or off, since a table belongs in the list import, not automatic recognition.
The band above your entries#
While the setting is on, a quiet violet band sits above the entry list, between the All / To review / Done tabs and the entries themselves, naming the destination list. Click it to reopen the setting.
If the list is deleted#
If the chosen list no longer exists, the band instead reads "The list no longer exists – please choose again," and the list picker in the setting shows the same warning. Until you pick a new list, new entries are not recognized automatically — they wait in the Inbox for you to click Recognize contacts yourself.
If credits run out#
If the workspace's balance is too low to cover a new entry's recognition when it arrives, that entry is skipped automatically — nothing is billed and no candidate is sent anywhere. The entry just stays in the Inbox unprocessed, the same as if the setting were off; once you've topped up credits, you can either wait for the next new entry or open that one yourself and click Recognize contacts.

FAQ#
What does "Add recognized contacts to a list automatically" do?#
It's a checkbox on the Inbox start page that, once on, recognizes every new entry right away and sends the contacts that pass your chosen check straight to a list you pick — no manual review for those. Companies, people only mentioned in the text, and anything that doesn't pass the check still wait in the Inbox for you.
Does turning this on cost anything?#
Yes — every new entry is recognized at the same 0.5-credit base as a manual run, plus the usual AI cost on top for longer free text. Nothing extra is charged for sending a passing contact to the list itself.
Which contacts go to the list automatically, and which still need me?#
Only people (never companies) with a name plus an e-mail address or LinkedIn URL, who aren't only mentioned in the text, aren't waiting on a LinkedIn profile choice, and pass the check you picked — confirmed on the web, or also merely plausible if you allowed that. Everything else waits in the Inbox exactly as if the setting were off.
What's the difference between "confirmed on the web" and "merely plausible"?#
"Confirmed on the web (safe)" only lets through contacts a web match backs up. "Merely plausible (AI check)" also lets through contacts the AI judges plausible even without a web match — it sends more contacts through automatically, at a slightly higher risk of an occasional wrong one.
Can a contact be added to the list twice this way?#
No. A contact that matches a row already in the list by e-mail, LinkedIn URL, or name and company fills that row's empty cells instead of being added again — the same merge rule as adding people to a list by hand.
I just turned this on — will it go through everything already in my Inbox?#
No. Only entries that arrive after you turn it on are recognized and sent automatically; entries already sitting in the Inbox are left alone for you to review by hand, so switching it on never bills or lists a backlog.
What happens if I delete the list this is pointed at?#
The band above your entries switches to "The list no longer exists – please choose again," and nothing is sent anywhere until you pick a new list in the setting. Until then, new entries aren't recognized automatically either — they wait in the Inbox for you to click Recognize contacts yourself.
What if the workspace runs out of credits while this is on?#
That entry's recognition is skipped — nothing is billed and no contact goes anywhere. It stays in the Inbox unprocessed until you top up credits, after which either the next new entry is picked up automatically or you can open that one and click Recognize contacts yourself.
Does a pasted or forwarded table get sent to a list automatically too?#
No. An entry ListPlus detects as a table (more than 10 rows, at least 3 columns) always waits for you and is offered as Import as list, whether the automatic setting is on or off — a table belongs in the list import, not recognition.
Where do I see that a contact was added automatically?#
In the Inbox, a recognized row that was sent this way shows the "In list" badge, the same as one you sent by hand; a violet band above the entry list also names the destination list while the setting is on, and the entry moves to the Done tab once everything in it is handled.
