Editing cells, undo/redo, and adding rows

Updated Markdown

Editing a cell#

Double-click a cell, or select it and press Enter, to start editing — or just start typing over a selected cell to replace its content right away. Enter commits the edit and keeps that cell selected, Tab commits and moves to the next cell, and Escape cancels and restores the previous value. Selecting a cell (without opening it for editing) and pressing Delete or Backspace clears it immediately.

Fill handle, copy and paste#

Drag the small square at the bottom-right corner of a selected cell or range to copy that value into every cell you drag over. Select a cell or a range, copy with ⌘C / Ctrl+C, then select the target and paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V — paste is turned off on lists you don't have edit access to.

Adding new rows#

Click New row in the status bar at the bottom of the grid, right-click any row and choose Insert Row Below, or press Tab or ↓ from the last cell of the last row to grow the grid automatically. None of these appear if adding rows has been turned off for that list.

Undo and redo#

The grid has real undo/redo: press ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z to undo your last edits and ⌘⇧Z or Ctrl+Y to redo them while the grid has focus, up to the last 50 changes. It covers cell edits — typed values, pasted values, fill-handle fills — but not adding or deleting rows, tags, or sublist changes, and it resets once you reload the page or leave the list.

Reverting a cell#

Hover a changed, unsaved cell to see its original value and a Revert button that restores just that cell. See saving-is-manual for the Changes panel, reverting every change at once, and what happens when you leave the page without saving.

  • saving-is-manual — the Changes panel, reverting all changes, and the unsaved-changes warning when you leave.
  • selecting-rows — the selection bar for acting on several rows at once.

FAQ#

How do I edit a cell?#

Double-click a cell, or select it and press Enter, to start editing — or just start typing to replace its content right away. Enter commits the edit and keeps that cell selected, Tab commits and moves to the next cell, and Escape cancels and restores the previous value.

What is the fill handle?#

It's the small square at the bottom-right corner of a selected cell or range — drag it down or across and ListPlus copies that value into every cell you drag over. It works for a single cell or a whole selected range at once.

Can I copy and paste cells or ranges?#

Yes — select a cell or a range, copy it with ⌘C / Ctrl+C, then select the target cell or range and paste with ⌘V / Ctrl+V. Paste is turned off on lists you don't have edit access to.

How do I add a new row?#

Click New row in the status bar at the bottom of the grid, right-click any row and choose Insert Row Below, or press Tab or ↓ from the last cell of the last row to grow the grid automatically. None of these appear if adding rows has been turned off for that list.

Is there an undo/redo for the grid?#

Yes — press ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z to undo your last edits and ⌘⇧Z or Ctrl+Y to redo them while the grid has focus, for up to the last 50 changes. This works while the list stays open in that browser tab; reloading or leaving resets the undo history.

What does undo/redo cover?#

Undo/redo covers cell edits: typed values, pasted values and fill-handle fills. It doesn't undo adding or deleting rows, tags, or sublist changes. Unsaved row additions and deletions are discarded with All → Revert in the Changes panel; tags and sublist membership save automatically, so remove them the same way you added them.

How do I revert just one cell back to its saved value?#

Hover the changed cell — it's highlighted because it's unsaved — and click Revert in the tooltip that appears, showing the original value. See saving-is-manual for reverting every change at once from the Changes panel.

How do I clear a cell's contents?#

Select the cell, without opening it for editing, and press Delete or Backspace — it's cleared immediately, as an unsaved edit until you save.
