Segment Search: the audience database
Segment Search (Segmentsuche) is where you filter a large B2B contact database by criteria — role, industry, company size, location and more — instead of searching for one named person. It gives you filtered access to our data provider's database, which by the provider's figures holds roughly 300 million profiles and 143 million verified email addresses, updated weekly, and lets you add matching people straight to a list. Open it with Segments in the left navigation.
Describe your audience or set filters#
At the top of an empty search, type a sentence describing who you want — for example "Heads of Sales at B2B SaaS companies in Germany with 50 to 200 employees" — into the box under "Which audience are you after?" and click Build filters. You can also click the microphone icon (Dictate) next to the box to speak your sentence; the text appears in the box, and you then click Build filters. Building filters is free and needs no account; dictation is also free but needs an account.
You can also set filters by hand, grouped into Person, Company, Signals and Reachability (job title, seniority, industry, company size, funding, verified email or mobile, and more). Below the search box, six example audiences under Try an example set a whole filter set with one click (Apply filters); hover a card to see its exact filters. The examples fit your market, chosen by your app language: US audiences in English and French (for example "Sales leaders at US SaaS", "IT leaders at US hospitals", "Marketing leaders using HubSpot"), DACH audiences in German and Spanish audiences in Spanish. Applying an example only fills the filters — nothing is searched or charged until you click Search Contacts, and you can adjust every filter first. The filter groups, how they combine and which fields must be picked from suggestions are covered in "How Segment Search filters work".
Run the search and what it costs#
Click Search Contacts. Each page of up to 25 results costs 2 credits, charged only after results come back — a search that matches nothing is free. Each further page is a new 2-credit charge, unless it repeats an identical search you ran in the last 30 days. ListPlus checks you have at least 2 credits before it runs the search and shows an error instead of searching if you don't; running a search needs an account (sign-up is free), though building filters above doesn't.
Reading the results#
Results appear as a table: name, title, company, seniority, since (the start date in the current role), location, industry, company size, domain, website and LinkedIn. Email and mobile columns show a masked preview (partly hidden, with a green check) wherever a verified value exists on the provider's side — the table never shows the full address or number.
Reveal email and phone#
Click a row to open that person's profile panel. Like a profile opened in Person Search, it automatically loads the basics (the LinkedIn profile and the company profile), typically about 0.75 credits combined, and each part is only charged when found; click Auto-load basics: on in the panel to turn it off if you only want to look. To turn a masked preview into the real value, click Reveal · 2 Cr next to Work email or Reveal · 12 Cr next to Mobile number under Reachability in the panel, each charged only when something is found; the mobile reveal asks you to confirm first.
Add results to a list#
Tick the rows you want, or use the header checkbox; with nothing ticked, the whole current page of up to 25 is added. Click Add To List, then choose an existing list (free) or create a new one (1 credit, like a file import) — ListPlus suggests a name from your filters. Rows arrive with name, job title, company, LinkedIn URL, industry, company size, website, domain and location; email and phone stay empty until you enrich them in the list afterwards. Unlike Add to list in Person Search, Add To List in Segment Search doesn't merge people already in the list, so adding the same page twice creates duplicate rows; run the duplicate check in the list if that happens.
Examples#
- DACH SaaS sales leaders: Job title (Head of Sales, VP Sales, CRO), Location (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Industry (pick e.g. "Software Development" from the suggestions), Employees (51–100, 101–200).
- Founders of freshly funded startups: Seniority (Founder/Owner, C-Suite), Funding (Seed or Series A, funded within the last 6 months), Company HQ (your target region).
- HubSpot users reachable by phone: Technology (HubSpot), Job title (Marketing Manager, RevOps), Contact data (Has verified mobile).
For advanced users#
A search identical to one you ran in the last 30 days (same filters, same page) is free; you still need at least 2 credits in your balance for the search to start. The History tab (next to Filter in the filter panel; on phones open Filters first) keeps your last 12 searches that had results, saved in this browser only. Opening one restores its filters and the last result page you viewed, for free; paging from there to a page you haven't fetched before is a new, paid page. Results show the total number of matches, and you can page through up to 25,000 of them, 25 per page. Filters marked "Not available" — such as Job change — can't be selected at the moment; to find people new in their role, use "Time in role (months)" or "Time at company (months)" instead.

FAQ#
How do I find contacts by role, industry or company size?#
Open Segments in the left navigation, set filters such as job title, seniority, industry, headcount or location, and click Search Contacts. Each page of up to 25 results costs 2 credits, and a search that matches nothing is free. Tick the rows you want and click Add To List.
What are the example audiences in Segment Search?#
Under Try an example, six cards set a complete filter set with one click (Apply filters), such as "Sales leaders at US SaaS" or "Marketing leaders using HubSpot"; hover a card to see its filters. The examples follow your app language: US audiences in English and French, DACH audiences in German, Spanish audiences in Spanish. Applying one is free and only fills the filters — you adjust them and click Search Contacts yourself.
What does a Segment Search cost?#
2 credits per page of up to 25 results, charged only when results come back — a search with no matches costs nothing. Building filters, the example audiences and the "describe your audience" box are all free. Each further page is a new 2-credit charge, unless it repeats an identical search you ran in the last 30 days.
Why do the results not show email addresses?#
The results table shows only a masked preview with a green check where a verified email or mobile exists, never the full address or number. Open the row and click Reveal · 2 Cr (Work email) or Reveal · 12 Cr (Mobile number) under Reachability, each charged only when found. You can also add the rows to a list first and enrich them there in bulk.
How do I add the results to a list?#
Tick the rows you want (or none to take the whole current page of up to 25), click Add To List, and pick an existing list for free or create a new list for 1 credit. Rows arrive with name, job title, company, LinkedIn URL, industry, company size, website, domain and location; email and phone stay empty until you enrich them. Adding the same page twice creates duplicate rows, because Segment Search doesn't merge existing contacts.
Can I describe my target group in words instead of setting filters?#
Yes — type a sentence such as "Heads of Sales at B2B SaaS companies in Germany with 50 to 200 employees" into the box at the top of Segment Search and click Build filters. ListPlus sets the matching filters for you to check before you run the search; this step is free and needs no account (dictating via the microphone icon needs an account).
How big is the database and where does the data come from?#
Roughly 300 million profiles with 143 million verified email addresses, updated weekly, from our data provider. ListPlus doesn't own a contact database itself; Segment Search gives you filtered access to the provider's data, which you can then enrich further with other sources.
Can I search companies instead of people?#
Segment Search always returns people, but each row carries the company's name, domain, website, industry and size. For one row per company, set the "Max per company" filter to 1. To find companies by a signal no filter covers, describe them in AI Research; it decides from your brief whether to return people or companies.
Do I need an account to use Segment Search?#
You can build filters, use the example audiences and type a "describe your audience" sentence without an account, all free. Clicking Search Contacts asks you to sign up first (sign-up is free: email address and a one-time code, no password). Adding results to a list also needs an account.
Does viewing page 2 of my results cost credits again?#
Yes — each page you fetch, including page 2 and beyond, is a separate 2-credit charge, because it's a new request to the database. It's free if the page has no results or repeats an identical search (same filters, same page) you ran in the last 30 days.
Does reopening a recent search from History cost credits again?#
No — the History tab restores a past search's filters and the result page you last saw straight from this browser, with no new request and no charge. Paging to a page you haven't fetched before in that search is still a new, paid page.
Can I dictate my audience description instead of typing it?#
Yes — click the microphone icon (Dictate) next to the "describe your audience" box at the top of Segment Search, speak for up to about two minutes, and the text appears in the box. Then click Build filters to turn it into filters. Dictation costs no credits but needs an account; typing the sentence works without one.
Does clicking a result in Segment Search cost credits?#
Yes, by default: opening a row loads the person's basics (LinkedIn profile and company) automatically, typically about 0.75 credits, each part only charged when found. Click "Auto-load basics: on" in the profile panel to turn it off if you only want to look; revealing the email (2 credits) or mobile (12 credits) is a separate click.
