LinkedIn imports and your responsibilities

Updated Markdown

This page covers the two questions people ask before running a LinkedIn import in ListPlus: does it touch my own LinkedIn account, and whose responsibility is it to make sure this fits LinkedIn's rules and the law where I operate. It's general orientation, not legal advice.

Your account is never used#

Every LinkedIn import — a Sales Navigator search, a company's employees, a profile search, or a post's reactions or comments — runs through a specialised LinkedIn data provider on ListPlus's side. It never signs in with your LinkedIn account, never uses your session, and doesn't need you to connect or share a LinkedIn login. The same is true for individual LinkedIn lookups elsewhere in ListPlus (profile and company enrichment, profile search, URL verification) — see "Where does the data come from?"

Whether to run an import is your call#

LinkedIn publishes its own User Agreement and professional community policies covering automated data collection from its site, and those terms can change. Whether running a LinkedIn import, and what you then do with the result, fits those terms and the law that applies to you (including data protection law) is something only you can judge for your situation — ListPlus doesn't determine or guarantee this for you, and this page doesn't interpret LinkedIn's terms on your behalf. Read LinkedIn's current terms directly on linkedin.com, and check with a lawyer before relying on imported LinkedIn data for anything with legal weight, especially commercial outreach.

Once you have the data, GDPR responsibilities still apply#

A LinkedIn import gives you personal data about people who didn't hand it to you directly, so once you use it — for example to contact someone — the same controller responsibilities apply as to any other enriched contact: a lawful basis, telling people where their data came from, and honoring objections. See "Your responsibilities under GDPR" for what that involves.

FAQ#

No. It runs through a specialised LinkedIn data provider on ListPlus's side; it never signs in as you and never uses your LinkedIn account or session, so you don't need to connect a LinkedIn login.

ListPlus doesn't determine or guarantee that for you — it depends on LinkedIn's own terms and the law that applies to your situation. This page is general orientation, not legal advice; check LinkedIn's current terms and talk to a lawyer before relying on this data, especially for commercial use.

You are. ListPlus provides the import feature and runs it through its data provider, but deciding to run an import against a specific search or page, and what you do with the results, is your decision and your responsibility to check against LinkedIn's rules.

Directly on linkedin.com — LinkedIn publishes its own User Agreement and professional community policies, and ListPlus doesn't reproduce or interpret them here since they can change independently of ListPlus.

The same "your responsibility, never your account" answer applies to every LinkedIn-related feature in ListPlus — the five import types (Sales Navigator, company employees, profile search, post reactions, post comments) and the individual profile/company lookups and URL verification in the Enrich menu.

Generally yes, the same as for any enriched contact: GDPR's Art. 14 duty to name the source applies (with narrow exceptions). See "Your responsibilities under GDPR" for what that requires and when.

No. It explains what ListPlus does (never your account) and points out that fitting LinkedIn's terms and applicable law is your responsibility; for an actual legal opinion, talk to a lawyer familiar with your market.
